Fifth graders began what we imagine to be, a yearlong relationship with Westside Campaign Against Hunger on West 86th Street. Three groups have volunteered thus far, and one more group will continue the work of helping to stock and prepare food for families' to 'shop'.
According to their website, "West Side Campaign Against Hunger changes our perception of hungry people by working in partnership with them, providing food with dignity, and empowering customers to find solutions."
Fifth graders had the wonderful idea of helping as well. WSCAH taught students about the difference between wholesale versus retail Instead of donating one retail turkey, the students decided to assist WSCAH by donating at least $1 each to help fund a number of turkeys in time for Thanksgiving! So far, students have donated $37!

We are thankful for such generous, altruistic students, and for the families that have made them!
Happy Thanksgiving from Team Grade 5!
That’s a great initiative! Sofia told me yesterday about that and that she decided to donate her allowance money for the week (I was very proud of her). Thanks for organizing this to help our kids to be more compassionate people and more integrated with their community. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
